Box Score RIDGELAND – Trailing by a goal early in the second half,
Taylor Renth and
Abigail Morales netted the tying and game-winning goals in the 58th and 69th minutes to cap a 2-1 come-from-behind win for Northwest.
Northwest improved to 6-0-2 overall and 2-0-2 in the north while Holmes fell to 4-2-1 overall and 1-2.
Scoreless at the half, the Lady Bulldogs pulled ahead 1-0 on Jordin Shaddix's goal in the 51st minute which sailed just over the head of Lady Ranger keeper
Ashley Nelson.
But Nelson, the reigning MACJC and NJCAA Division I Goalkeeper of the Week, did not allow anything after that en route to a 12-save afternoon.
Renth scored her first goal of the season in the 58th minute to knot the match at 1-1, scoring off a free kick from
Sidney Bond that bounced off a defender.
Morales netted her team-leading 11th goal of the year in the 69th minute, using a great cross from
Kayla Boutwell, controlling the ball off her chest and firing it past Tera Tims for her fourth game-winner of the season.
Holmes outshot Northwest 22-15 (13-8 on-goal) but the Lady Rangers were able to rally for two late goals to stay unbeaten in eight matches.
Northwest will host Copiah-Lincoln (0-7) on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m.
