Box Score 2 SENATOBIA – Northwest head softball coach
Mike Rowan reached a coaching milestone in a doubleheader sweep over Coahoma on a rainy Sunday afternoon, picking up his 300th career victory in a 12-0 Game 1 win. The Rangers finished off the sweep with an 11-1 Game 2 win.
The doubleheader was moved from Clarksdale to Senatobia and played as a home game for Coahoma.
Northwest improved to 21-12 overall and 12-6 in the north, good enough for sole possession of second place in the division standings with six games remaining.
Behind a 5-for-7 afternoon from
Alex Barrett, who's riding an 11-game hitting streak, the Rangers out-hit the Lady Tigers 22-3 with eight doubles, three triples and a solo home run by
Lindsey Shaw. Ten different Rangers had at least one hit in the doubleheader.
Northwest scored four runs off five hits in the top of the first, with
Alex Barrett hitting an RBI-triple, followed by an RBI-double from
Micalah Beall, RBI-single from
Kendall Alford and RBI-groundout by
Naomi Newcom.
The Rangers added three more in the third and fourth and two in the fifth for the run-rule win in five innings.
Kiley Dunagan,
Jessica Holliday and Shaw combined for a one-hit shutout with six strikeouts.
Drennan Nemnich,
Haley Vance,
Andi Barrett and
Alex Barrett led a 10-hit attack in the finale with two hits each, as Shaw hit her first collegiate home run and An. Barrett had a team-best four RBIs.
Despite a slow start with just one run in the first, the Rangers plated four in the second and five in the third to earn an 11-1 run-rule win in five that finished just minutes before the hard rain hit.
The Rangers return to action on Wed., April 9 at SW Tennessee. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. in Bartlett, Tenn.
