Box Score 2 SENATOBIA – Behind strong performances from starting pitchers
Matt Ferguson and
Tanner Cable and a combined 21 runs off 24 hits from the Ranger offense, Northwest closed out the regular season on Saturday with a sweep over Itawamba by 15-5 (8 inn.) and 6-2 finals.
Northwest improved to 30-14 overall and 16-8 in division play while ICC dropped to 20-22 and 9-15. The Rangers won the season series 3-1 over the Indians and have won 19 of their last 24 overall.
Trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning in the opener,
Taylor King's two-out, two-run home run to left-center put the Rangers in front momentarily 2-1.
ICC regained the lead, 3-2, in the top of the fifth on Ethan Gill's two-run single.
A six-run bottom of the fifth put the Rangers in front for good, with
Luke Latham hitting a solo home run and
Chase Clark smashing a grand slam to right.
ICC closed to within 8-5 in the seventh before seven unanswered runs over the seventh and eighth gave Northwest the 15-5 run-rule win.
Brennan Pugh was credited with the walk-off winner on an RBI-groundout.
Northwest had 15 hits in the victory by nine different players, led by
Stephen Sexton with three hits and
Jay King,

Northwest jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three in Game 2, with T. King hitting a grand slam in the third, and that was more than enough offense for Cable.

Tyler Scholl earned his sixth save of the year and school record-breaking 11th of his career.
