Northwest Stays Hot, Sweeps at Holmes

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GOODMAN – Northwest ran its season-long winning streak out to four games with a road sweep at Holmes on Wednesday evening by 6-4 and 15-4 finals.

Winners in 14 of 18, Northwest improved to 25-13 overall and 13-7 in the north while Holmes dropped to 26-14 and 7-11 in division play. The Rangers won the season series 3-1 and have also won 12 of the last 13 overall against the Bulldogs.

After Holmes went up early 1-0 in Game 1, Northwest scored five unanswered over the next five innings to take a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth. 

Luke Latham's RBI-double in the second tied the game at 1-1 before James Lear unloaded his second career home run to left-center in the third to give the Rangers their first lead.

Holmes rallied late with a two-run home run by Terrell Hodges to pull the final within 6-4. 

Matt Ferguson tossed a career-high 7.2 innings, scattering seven hits, four runs and five strikeouts to earn the win and improve to 5-3 while Tyler Scholl grabbed his fourth save of the year with a scoreless 1.1 innings to close things out. 

Seven different Rangers had a hit in the win. 

Trailing 2-0 into the fourth inning of Game 2, Northwest exploded for 15 runs over the final four innings, highlighted by an eight-run fifth, to run away with a 15-4 win. 

Northwest was no-hit through the first three innings by Clyde Kendrick and struck out five times before two Holmes relievers were shelled for 11 runs over the final 2.2 innings.  

In the eight-run fifth, Northwest managed just three hits but was aided by two Bulldog errors, three walks, three wild pitches and a passed ball. Tanner Densford, Jay King, James Clark and Kramer Hollenbach all had RBIs in the frame. 

Tanner Cable tossed four innings, scattering five hits, four runs and three strikeouts to move to 5-2 while Will Faulkner earned the first save of his career in finishing the game with three scoreless innings. 

Once again, seven different Rangers had a hit in the win, paced by J. King and Taylor King with two apiece. Densford was 1-for-4 with four RBIs. Hollenbach also extended his reached base streak to an impressive 34 games and J. King extended his career-long hit streak out to 14 games with his 100th career hit. 

Northwest will travel to Scooba on Good Friday with first pitch set for 4 p.m. against No. 5 East Mississippi.
