Rangers Place Third at Lou Hart Invitational

MERIDIAN – Shortened to a 27-hole tournament at the Lou Hart Invitational due to weather conditions, freshman Hayes Carr took individual medalist honors and two other Rangers finished in the Top 10 as Northwest placed third out of 10 teams.

Carr's two-day total of 110 (75-35) was three strokes better than second place finisher Chase Taylor of the host team, Meridian. It was Carr's first tournament of the season.

Northwest shot 321 on day one and followed that up with a round two best 147 along with Meridian on Tuesday to finish in a tie for third with Jones County at 468.

"Our guys battled hard as they have all year," volunteer assistant Guy Purdy said. "We'll have spring break off and will be ready to play at our tournament at the end of the month. I think we may be peaking at the right time and are really coming together as a team."

Stuart Cochran (80-36) and Martin Powell (81-36) finished in a tie for fifth and eighth while Alan Larson (T18), Trey Wilkinson (T26) and Riley Baggett (T35) rounded out the finishers for Northwest.

Both Carr and Cochran made the All-Tournament Team for their efforts.

The Rangers return to the links March 31-April 1, hosting the Northwest Invitational at North Creek/Wedgewood.
