Northwest Drops Second Top 25 Opponent

RAYMOND – The Northwest men's tennis team knocked off its second ranked opponent in nine days, defeating 24th-ranked Hinds on the road by an 8-1 final.

Northwest moved to 2-1 on the year and will host Itawamba on March 7 at 1 p.m.

It was a clean sweep in doubles play with Jon Morgan Bell/Max Stanford winning 9-7 over Devonte Thomas/Aaron Gray at No. 1 and Tyler Newman/Chip Malone knocking off Austin Peavey/Jonathan Bethea 8-6. Christian Scott/Joseph Shilder also won 8-1.

Northwest won five of the six singles matches with relative ease and Malone battled through a three-set decision to win 3-6, 7-5, 10-8. The lone loss came at No. 5 singles with Peavey taking a 6-2, 6-0 win.
