Rangers Finish 2-3 at Northeast TigerFest

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 BOONEVILLE – Facing some of the toughest competition they'll see all year long at the annual Northeast TigerFest, Northwest finished 2-3 in five games on Saturday and Sunday to move to 4-3 on the year.

Northwest opened the weekend with a 5-0 win over John A. Logan, as Roxanna Kimes, Lydia Dias and Lindsey Shaw combined for a two-hit shutout in the circle. The Rangers scored runs in each of the first four innings and finished the game with 10 hits, led by Kendall Alford who was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Gadsden State scored two runs in the first inning in the Rangers' second game and that was the only scoring for either team. Bethany Chamblee threw a two-hit shutout.

The final game on Saturday against Wabash Valley produced the most exciting game of the tournament, as Northwest rallied for seven unanswered runs after falling behind 3-0 in the second inning to win 7-3.

A five-run fourth inning was the difference, with the Rangers getting six hits in the frame, including a leadoff triple to left by Kimes. Dias picked up her second win of the day to move to 2-0, tossing 3.1 innings in relief.

On Sunday, Northwest led Jefferson College 2-1 going to the bottom of the sixth before giving up four runs and falling 5-2. Naomi Newcom had the lone RBI for the Rangers in the second that scored Andi Barrett. Lefty Mackenzie Hoelting threw a one-hitter for the Vikings.

In the finale against Lincoln Land, the Ranger bats were again silenced in a two-hit shutout. The Loggers opened up what was a two-run game with three runs in the fourth on a Rachel Wisner homer to left.

Northwest will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 25 against Southwest Mississippi. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Monday, but moved last week. Live stats will not be available.
