Box Score SENATOBIA – Northwest clinched a playoff spot for the second consecutive season on Friday, knocking off Holmes 2-0 with a pair of second half goals by
Sidney Bond and
Abigail Morales.
Wearing pink for its annual Breast Cancer Awareness game, Northwest improved to 8-4-4 overall and closed north division play at 3-2-3, while Holmes dropped to 7-7-1 and 2-5 in division play.
Scoreless at the half, Bond scored what would be the game-winner in the 51st minute for Northwest, scoring off a free kick that hit the crossbar and bounced in over the head of Kaitlyn Bryant.
The goal snapped a team scoreless streak of nearly 675 minutes
dating back to Sept. 23.
Morales made the final 2-0 in the 66th minute with a beautiful bicycle kick goal off
Brooke Lester's corner kick, scoring her team-leading 13th of the year.
Holmes owned a 17-7 shot advantage (5-5 SOG) and 8-2 corner kick edge in the match.
Ashley Nelson had five saves to post her 10th shutout of the season, tying a school record.
Northwest will close out the regular season on Friday, Oct. 24 at Mississippi Gulf Coast.
