Box Score ELLISVILLE – Northwest hung with the No. 10 team in the country for a full 90 minutes but came up a couple of goals short in a 2-0 loss Tuesday afternoon at Jones County.
The Lady Bobcats improved to 10-0 and haven't allowed a goal in seven consecutive matches. Northwest, ranked 19th nationally, dropped to 7-2-3 overall.
JCJC scored 2:58 into the match for an early 1-0 lead off a goal from South Alabama transfer Shelby Gilliland (Kelsey Hannaford). It marked her team-leading 12th of the year.
Northwest settled in, however, and battled through a one-goal deficit into halftime.
Needing a good start to the second half, the Lady Rangers got the opposite, surrendering a goal just 9 seconds into the period to fall behind 2-0. Carissa Lancaster scored off an assist from Gilliland.
The lead was more than enough for JCJC goalkeeper Briahna Dickerson and the Lady Bobcats who haven't allowed a goal in over 630 minutes.
Ashley Nelson finished with 15 saves in defeat, running her season total to 98 in 12 matches.
Northwest returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 7 against Itawamba. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. in Senatobia.
