FULTON – Playing its second match against nationally-ranked Itawamba, the Northwest women's tennis team was defeated 9-0 by the Lady Indians on Tuesday afternoon at Johnson-Partlow Courts.
Itawamba, ranked No. 22 by the ITA, improved to 6-1 on the year while Northwest fell to 0-3.
The Indians took an early 3-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles points. Sawyer Ewing and Hannah Switzer fell 8-5 at No. 2 and played the Lady Rangers' second best doubles match of the year.
Northwest was swept in all six singles matches, but got a strong fight from Ashley Roberson at No. 3 and Hanna Waldrip at No. 5. Roberson fell 6-0, 7-6 to Anna-Blair Hunt, while Waldrip fell 6-1, 6-4 to Theresa Jackson.
The Rangers fell to Holmes 5-4 last Friday in Senatobia.
Northwest will return to the courts next Monday, April 15, traveling to East Central for a 2 p.m. contest. The Rangers will close out the regular season at 1 p.m. Tuesday against Northeast.
