FULTON – Playing a third ranked opponent in four matches, including two against Itawamba, the Northwest men's tennis team was defeated 9-0 by the Indians on Tuesday afternoon at Johnson-Partlow Courts.
Itawamba, ranked No. 20 by the ITA, improved to 6-2 on the year while Northwest fell to 0-4.
The Indians took an early 3-0 lead by sweeping all three doubles points 8-0, 8-1 and 8-1.
Weldon Meng played a competitive match at No. 3 singles, falling 6-1, 6-2 to Ambrose Wilson but Northwest was unable to take a match against the heavy favorites. ICC won 6-0, 6-0 at No's 1, 2 and 6 singles.
The Rangers fell to 23rd-ranked Holmes 9-0 and Copiah-Lincoln 7-2 last Friday in Senatobia.
Northwest will return to the courts next Monday, April 15, traveling to East Central for a 2 p.m. contest. The Rangers will close out the regular season at 1 p.m. Tuesday against Northeast.
