Arkansas Baptist Gets Revenge in Sweep of Northwest

SENATOBIA – Arkansas Baptist got its revenge from a doubleheader sweep at home by way of Northwest a week ago and knocked off the Rangers Thursday night by 5-4 and 12-4 scores.

The losses snapped a season-long eight-game winning streak as Northwest fell to 11-6 overall.

Northwest was out-hit 23-14 in the two games and committed a combined six errors.

Leading 3-0 in the fourth inning of Game 1 as Domenick Carlini was cruising along, the Rangers ran into trouble in the fourth and fifth innings as Arkansas Baptist scored five unanswered runs (one earned) to take a 5-3 lead.

Northwest pulled within a run in the seventh off Kramer Hollenbach's first and the Rangers' first home run of the season before Tanner Rockwell closed the door for the save.

Dyllon Brownmiller tossed 5 1/3 innings in relief of Cole Braunecker for the win, scattering four hits, two strikeouts and just one run.

Carlini (2-2) took the loss for Northwest in five innings of work, striking out six and giving up five runs off five hits. Tanner Densford went the final two innings and gave up one hit.

Hollenbach went 2-for-3 to lead the Ranger offense, while ABC's Rockwell went 3-for-3 with the game-winning 3-run home run in the fifth.  

The Buffaloes darted out to an insurmountable 9-0 lead through 3 1/2 in Game 2, riding the bat of Chase Sealy who had four of ABC's 16 hits in the game.

Northwest fought back to get three runs in the fourth to pull it within 9-3, using RBIs from Hollenbach and Josh Brown. The teams would then exchange runs in the sixth to make it 10-4.

ABC added two more insurance runs in the seventh to make the final 12-4.

Northwest used seven different pitchers in the loss, with Tanner Cable falling to 2-1 on the season. Grant Black went four innings, giving up three runs off six hits for the win.

Five different Buffaloes had multiple hits, while Northwest was led by two hits each from Jordan Barnes and Hollenbach. Barnes also stretched his reached base streak out to a team-high 15 games.

Northwest will try and bounce back on Saturday, welcoming Itawamba in for a 4 p.m. doubleheader.
