Rangers Fall at PRCC in State Quarterfinals

Box Score POPLARVILLE – Making its first postseason appearance since 2006, the Northwest women's soccer team was defeated 5-0 Tuesday afternoon in the state quarterfinals by reigning state champions, Pearl River.

Pearl River improved to 13-2 on the season and advances to the state semifinals this weekend in Raymond, while Northwest's season came to a close at 8-4-2 overall.

The Lady Wildcats took a commanding 3-0 lead at the half and never looked back. Leading 1-0 after Karly Mitchell's goal in the 9th minute, PRCC scored twice in the final 2 minutes of the half to take a three-goal lead.

Just four minutes into the second half, PRCC extended the lead to 4-0 on a Kacy Mixon goal and closed the match in the 68th minute when Laken McBroom added a fifth goal.

Northwest's 8-4-2 finish is the third-best in school history by win percentage.
