SENATOBIA – Visiting Jones County netted three second half goals to break a scoreless tie at the half, including a pair by Morgan Pace, to come away with a 3-0 road win over Northwest Tuesday afternoon.
Jones County improved to 2-0 on the young season, while Northwest fell to 0-3.
Sophomore Kelli Brewer had a career day between the posts, stopping 11 shots – nine in the first half – to keep the game tied at intermission.
But Jones County would break the stalemate just 1:15 into the second half when Chelsea Wooten executed a perfect cross into the box where Pace fired it past Brewer for the 1-0 lead. Pace would strike again in the 60th minute off a Kimberly Murray assist, beating the keeper to the upper right corner.
Murray put the icing on the cake in the 65th minute, scoring an unassisted goal to make it 3-0.
Despite being out-shot 30-4 (14-4 SOG) on the afternoon, Northwest had several scoring chances early in the game they that just couldn't capitalize on. Allie Hodges, Brianna Lulow, Kayla Kelly and Alex Driver were each credited with shots.
Michelle Brumfield and Kristen Pittman split time in net for the Lady Bobcats, each stopping a pair of Northwest shots in 45 minutes of action.
Northwest will return to action on Saturday at Southwest. Gametime is set for 2 p.m.
