Lady Rangers Come Up Short to Hinds, Drop Finale 2-0

SENATOBIA – With a chance to claim its second ever north division title on the line, Northwest couldn't overcome two first half goals in the opening 15 minutes as they fell to Hinds 2-0 on a cold and windy Wednesday afternoon to eliminate them from postseason play.

Hinds improved to 6-1-1 in the north in claiming the division title and 9-6-1 overall, while Northwest ended its season at 5-9-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the north for a third place finish.

The Lady Eagles got on the board first in the 11th minute when Ashley Goodlett took a Ranger cross in front of the box and one-touched it past Kelli Brewer in the net for a 1-0 lead. They'd increase the lead to 2-0 just 4:21 later when Pam Usry scored off a Morgan Miller assist.

The 2-0 lead held for Hinds the final 75 minutes, with Northwest having minimal opportunities to score and get back in the contest late. The Lady Rangers had just six shots-on-goal for the match, compared to 12 for the Lady Eagles. Hinds outshot Northwest 23-9 overall.

Brandi Brantley got the win for Hinds between the posts, saving six shots, while Brewer had 10 saves for her fifth double-digit save game of the season.

Despite the loss, Northwest's overall (five) and north division wins (four) are the most since 2006.

The Lady Rangers also bid farewell to four outgoing sophomores in Kayla Kelly, Morgan Taylor, Sarah Bishop and Brewer, who played their final games in a Northwest uniform.
