Ranger Head

Jon Fabris

    Defensive Line
The defending MACJC North Division champion Northwest Rangers and fourth-year head coach Ricky Woods have announced the hiring of Jon Fabris as its new defensive line coach.

Fabris replaces Jordan Lesley, who coached the 2010 season for Northwest and left to take the defensive coordinator position at Kilgore College (Texas) in early March.

A veteran defensive coach, Fabris will be joining the Rangers' coaching staff after a brief stint at Louisville under Charlie Strong prior to the 2010 season. Fabris coached the previous nine seasons (2001-09) as the defensive ends coach on Mark Richt's staff at Georgia.

Fabris was part of a staff that won 89 games in nine seasons at UGA, including two SEC Championships, three SEC Eastern Division Titles, six bowl victories and six Top 10 finishes in the final national polls. He headed the development of defensive ends David Pollack, Will Thompson, Quentin Moses, Charles Johnson and Marcus Howard. Pollack was an All-American from 2002-04, joining former tailback Herschel Walker as the only Bulldogs to earn that honor three times.

He began his coaching career as the junior varsity defensive backfield coach at Georgia Tech in 1980 and will enter his 28th season overall in the college ranks when he takes the field with Northwest this fall.

Fabris has strong ties to the state of Mississippi, starting three seasons at Ole Miss as a defensive back and punt returner during his four years as a letterman from 1976-79. He later received his bachelor of arts degree in 1980. Fabris was also a quarterback at Starkville High School in 1974.
