CULLMAN, AL – After a 4-0 weekend at the Wallace State Invitational, the Northwest Mississippi Community College volleyball team picked up a pair of players on the All-Tournament Team. After putting together a consistent tournament run, Valerie Hurdle and Chloe Rodriguez were both selected for the team for their outstanding play.
Rodriguez was one of the top setters at the event, finishing with 20 or more assists in every match other than the final one, where she tallied 17 in the win over Wallace State-Hanceville Community College. The Jonesboro, Arkansas native finished the tournament with 82 total assists, adding in 10 block assists and two kills to go with them.
On the attacking side, Hurdle benefited from the passing of Rodriguez along with Dallas White, finishing the tournament with 37 kills while only making seven hitting errors in the four matches. That resulted in a tournament hitting percentage of .416 and included a nine-kill, 11-error match against Roane State Community College, where she matched her career best hitting percentage of .818.
Rodriguez is currently fourth in the conference in assists with 305 on the year, and is approaching 750 in her career. Hurdle, who is from Holly Springs, is also one of the top attackers in the conference, with 143 kills while hitting at a .310 clip, which is the best on the team at this point.
Northwest improved to 19-0 with a win over #23 Jones College on Monday night, and will be going for a 20th consecutive win on Wednesday on the road at Northeast Mississippi Community College.
