SENATOBIA – For the second time this year, the Northwest Mississippi Community College volleyball team picked up a MACCC Defensive Player of the Week after a 6-0 performance with five of those matches away from home.

The defense on the back line was key, and Jania Rose was the leader of the back row, accounting for 50 digs and nine aces during the week, while only making three reception errors on serve receive, with a reception percentage of .949. She had four aces in the Rangers' 3-1 victory on the road at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and put up those numbers while only playing in 15 of the 19 sets the Rangers played.

This year, Rose has been one of the rocks for the Rangers on defense, currently sitting with 187 digs, which is 45 more than the next closest on the team, averaging 3.82 per set. She also has only made eight reception errors in 205 chances, for a reception percentage of .961. In the serving game, she has been just as key, with 21 aces this year, one of six Rangers with over 20 aces this season.

It should come as no surprise on any of those numbers. Over her career, she has averaged 3.33 digs per set and surpassed the 500-dig mark earlier this season, sitting at 572 in 54 matches played, all while splitting time last year as the libero. Rose is also just 12 aces away from 100 in her career, and over two seasons has only made 8 reception errors in 172 sets played.

The Rangers will be back in action this week, looking to keep their 19-0 record intact when they head to Booneville on Wednesday night for action against the Tigers of Northeast Mississippi Community College.
