SENATOBIA - The Northwest Mississippi Community College women's soccer team (7-0) hangs on to a 2-1 scoreline to narrowly beat Southwest Mississippi Community College women's soccer team (3-4-1) in Summit in their first road conference contest. 

Although the first half got off to a slow start, the Rangers were able to tally two quick goals from sophomores Jaden Newman and Lena Scholze.  

Newman's goal came when she was able to capitalize on a poor defensive clearance from the Bears in the 24th minute. Less than 40 seconds later, Scholze was able to net the second goal, and eventual game winner, for the Rangers when she headed home an Emma Demassey corner.  

Although NWCC continued to have chances throughout the rest of the game with 24 shots and 12 corners by the final whistle, they did not score again.  

Southwest was able to net their lone goal of the game in the 69th minute off of a free kick from around 30 yards away from the goal.  

Even though the Northwest defense did not earn a clean sheet, they still were able to earn the win and close out the game. In NWCC's efforts to close out the game, they only allowed four shots and allowed zero Southwest corners.  

The Rangers have definitely seen their share of better performances, but they can hang their hat on the fact that they still came away with the win while not playing their best.  

"We probably weren't good enough on the night," Head Coach James Beattie said. "I've said that a sign of a good team is a team that doesn't play well and wins, so hopefully we learn from it and move on." 

On Tuesday, September 22, the Rangers (7-0) will host #2 Jones College (6-0-1) in their first of two back-to-back top-five mashups at 7 p.m. in Senatobia at the Ranger Soccer Complex.
