Ranger women win 30th straight as they control Itawamba in 8-0 win

Northwest has seven score as they remain undefeated at home

SENATOBIA - The #1 Northwest Community College women's soccer team (8-0, 3-0) put Itawamba Community College (3-3-2, 0-2-1) early on the way to their 30th win in a row as the defending national champions continued to take down any and all comers through the 2025 season.

It was a new face to the scoring party for the Rangers to open the game in the tenth minute when Lillie Grace McCutchen's only shot of the game found it's way past the MACCC Goalie of the Week on a pass from Caroline Hamm to put NWCC on top 1-0 in front of the home crowd.

Just one minute later, the leg of Emma Jensen did what everyone has come to expect and that was bury her first shot of the game into the back of the net on a laser beam from 20 yards in the 11th minute, moving her into a tie for second all time in the career scoring records for the Rangers with Elyse Lovelace (2006) for the 37th goal of her career. Another strike from Jensen pushed the sophomore from Germany into sole possession of the record when she again powered a shot in, this time from 24 yards out in the 28th minute to make it 3-0.

That goal opened the scoring in a big way for NWCC. A few seconds later, Caroline Perkins, the newly crowned MACCC Offensive Player of the Week, netted her seventh goal in the last three games after finishing a cross from Oliva Miller to make it 4-0, and a fifth goal came one minute later when Maggie Pace picked up the first goal of the season for herself on a shot from 10 yards out.

Up 5-0, Northwest still wasn't done. Joline Knevel kept the pace up for the Rangers when she added her seventh goal of the season from 20 yards out to push the lead to 6-0 in the 42nd minute heading into the halftime break.

Northwest pulled most of the starting eleven going into the final 45 minutes and the Indians found a little bit of footing against them, but it was more in limiting shots going into the net than building any offensive pressure. Itawamba still only managed two total shots in the second half on their way to four in the game, and the only shot on goal was saved by backup keeper Darby Woolever who entered the game at halftime.

On the flip side, Northwest did pick up two more goals in the final six minutes of the match, breaking through the defense in the 70th minute on a strike from Caroline Hamm to give her a goal and an assist in the match. In the 76th minute, Molly Thompson picked up her fifth goal of the year to end the match early with an 8-0 score after finishing a shot after a save from Itawamba wasn't cleared from the six-yard box.

Seven NWCC players scored in the game and eight recorded a point and Head Coach James Beattie said he preaches depth to the team and has the same expectations for his players up and down the lineup.

"I don't think we have a bench. I think we have 25 players that can contribute at any given moment whether it's the start, coming off the bench, or in the second half and I think that's the key. Teams win championships, not individuals, so I think it's so important that we do it as a team and we are collective in everything we do. Even if they are coming off of the bench and not starting, we expect them to make a difference."

The mercy rule win was the Rangers seventh of the season in eight games and their third in conference to date.

The offense was a machine again for NWCC, firing 37 shots at the net and putting 22 of them on frame, and to the credit of the Itawamba goalie, 14 of those were saved. The Rangers also attempted eight corner kicks and only committed six fouls in the match, and were only called offsides twice.

Northwest returns to the road on Friday when they continue their conference schedule with a game at Meridian Community College at 5:00 pm. The match will be played at the Smith Soccer Complex where Jensen will look to break the all time record for both goals and points in a career. One more goal would tie her with Jessica Yelvington in career goals with 38 and two would give her the record alone. This would be her second career record where she moved ahead of Yelvington, surpassing the 2004-2005 Ranger in career points during tonight's match, setting the new mark with 89 career points.

Streaming information on the match will be posted on Ranger social media accounts on the day of the match, and more information on the schedule and the NWCC record books can be found at nwccrangers.com.
