SENATOBIA – The #1 Northwest Mississippi Community College women's soccer team had no issues at home on Tuesday night on their way to a 12-0 MACCC win over East Mississippi Community College.
The Rangers were led by an incredible performance from
Caroline Perkins who opened the game assisting on a goal by
Olivia Miller in the opening minute of the match before pushing the lead to three with unassisted goals of her own in the 12
th and 13
th minutes.
Emma Jensen continued her stretch of scoring with a goal in the 18
th minute when
Maggie Pace fed the sophomore from Germany for a strike from just outside of the 18-yard box to push the lead to 4-0. It was her 11th goal in six games this season. That shot was bested just three minutes later when fellow German
Joline Knevel laced a beautiful strike from 25 yards out that found the upper right corner of the frame to push the lead to 5-0.
Two more goals rounded out what was an explosive first half for NWCC including a 32
nd minute strike from
Caroline Hamm on a corner kick from
Allie Sifford and another in the 42
nd minute when
Amiyah Baker pushed the lead to 7-0 on a header of her own from a corner delivered by
Emma Demassey.
In the second half, the Rangers picked up a goal when a corner kick was deflected into the goal by EMCC in the 47
th minute to put the mercy rule into effect, but it didn't mean the NWCC offense slowed down.
The final ten minutes saw another avalanche of goals behind a six-minute hat trick from Perkins.
The freshman from Oxford placed a shot from 12 yards out into the net for her third goal of the game in the 61
st minute. She was in the right place at the right time to finish a ball that was deflected by the goalie on a cross for her fourth goal in the 64
th minute and just a few seconds later finished a cross from
Kassidy McMillan for her fifth goal of the game to push the advantage to 11-0.
Perkins is the first Ranger to score five or more goals in a game since Evie Crawford did it against Hinds on September 27, 2022.
One more goal for the Rangers came in the 68
th minute when Knevel added a second to her tally on a pass from Pace to close out the scoring with the final at 12-0 for a season high in goals for the team which have scored double digit goals in half of their games this season.
"It's not just important to get a win but also was important to keep a clean sheet so hopefully we take it into the game on Friday," Head Women's Soccer Coach
James Beattie said. "We're taking it one game at a time and not getting ahead of ourselves."
The Rangers dominated in every category, out shooting the Lions 48-0 and putting 23 of those shots on frame. They also took 10 corner kicks in the match and only committed three fouls in the 70 minutes of play.
Ann Marie Barton started the game in net and was pulled after 27 minutes for Darby Woolver who completed the final 43 minutes.
Northwest returns to action on Friday when they travel to Hinds Community College for another MACCC match. Hinds enters the match at 6-1 after dropping their opening conference game to #3 Jones College 2-0 on the road.
The match is scheduled for 5:00 pm from Raymond, MS. Information on the match can be found on nwccrangers.com or on NWCC social media accounts.
