CHARLOTTE - Following a roller-coaster week that ended in a 4-2 stretch, the Northwest softball program held at No. 9 in the NJCAA Division II Rankings, released Monday afternoon.
Northwest (21-3, 2-2 MACCC) started last week with a pair of road losses to No. 1 Jones College, which remains at the top spot in the latest rankings. However, the Rangers recovered with a sweep of National Park College last Thursday and a sweep of then-No. 13 Pearl River on Sunday.
Seven MACCC programs are represented in this week's polls, led by the aforementioned Bobcats at the No. 1 spot. Copiah-Lincoln held at No. 7, with Northeast moving up a spot to No. 11. Pearl River dropped two slots to No. 15, with Itawamba and Mississippi Gulf Coast checking in at 17th and 18th, respectively.
Additionally, Region 23 foe LSU-Eunice also held on to its No. 10 slot from the previous week. In the top five, St. Johns River State (Fla.) remained second nationally, while Murray State College (Okla.), Pima (Ariz.) and Phoenix College each moved up a slot to No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Northwest will resume competition against Mississippi Delta on Tuesday, March 18 at 2/4 P.M. The games were initially scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, but were rescheduled due to weather concerns.
In the all-time series, the Rangers lead the Lady Trojans by a 60-10 margin. Mississippi Delta (8-18, 0-6 MACCC) are in the midst of a six-game losing streak, with their most recent losses coming to East Central last Thursday.
