Rangers to visit No. 1 Jones College Tuesday afternoon

CHARLOTTE - Following another 4-0 week with road sweeps at Gadsden State and Jackson State (Tenn.), the Northwest softball team jumped up another spot in the latest NJCAA Division II Rankings, released Monday afternoon.

Northwest moved from No. 10 to No. 9 in the newest batch of rankings, joining two other MACCC programs in the Top 10. Jones College held at No. 1 in the nation, while Copiah-Lincoln moved up a spot from No. 8 to seventh nationally.

Four other MACCC programs were represented in the latest rankings, starting with Northeast at No. 12 and Pearl River earning the No. 13 slot, rising from its previous ranking of 16th. Mississippi Gulf Coast dropped five spots to No. 20 and Itawamba held firm at No. 21.

Additionally, NJCAA Region 23 foe LSU-Eunice moved up from 11th to 10th. The remainder of the top five features St. Johns River State (Fla.) at No. 2, third-ranked Des Moines Area, No. 4 Murray State College (Okla.) and fifth-ranked Pima (Ariz.).

Northwest (17-1) will put its national ranking to the test on Tuesday afternoon, facing top-ranked Jones College at 3/5 P.M. The Rangers are 4-0 against nationally-ranked teams this season, but the Lady Bobcats lead the all-time series against NWCC by a 20-2 margin.

Jones College (24-3, 2-0 MACCC) enters Tuesday's matchup on a 15-game winning streak, including a conference-opening sweep at East Central last weekend.
