ELLISVILLE - A 44-29 halftime deficit turned into a second half blowout for Northwest in Thursday's 100-56 loss at seventh-ranked Jones College.
With the loss, the Rangers dropped to 6-9 overall and 1-3 in the MACCC, as the Bobcats moved to 17-3 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.
Northwest remained within single digits for the first 10 minutes of the game, only for Jones College to pull ahead by double digits at the 10:28 mark of the first half. The Rangers would close the gap back to seven points just minutes later, but Dimp Pernell's layup at the 7:39 mark kept the Bobcats ahead by double figures the rest of the way.
Shortly into the second half, Jones College stretched its lead to 20 points and later to 30 points with 7:20 left to go. Northwest was ultimately outscored in the second half by a 56-27 margin.
Turnovers proved costly for the Rangers, as the Bobcats outscored Northwest 32-4 in points off turnovers. Jones College also picked up 35 points from its reserves and outmatched NWCC in fast break points, 24-9.
Northwest shot just 36 percent from the floor, while the Bobcats finished the evening shooting 49 percent. The Rangers were also just 2-for-10 in free throws, while Jones College hit 13 of its 16 free throw attempts for an 81 percent average.
Colain Brown ended the night as the only double-digit scorer for Northwest, finishing with 10 points and four assists.
Shavurdacour Nicholas scored nine points with four rebounds, while
Keanu Patrick collected a team-high six rebounds.
Five Bobcats finished in double figures, led by a combined 44 points from the Pernell twins.Â
Northwest will look to snap its three-game losing skid on Monday, January 27 with a home matchup against Mississippi Delta. The Trojans (8-9, 1-3 MACCC) are coming off an 84-76 win against Mississippi Gulf Coast, and the Rangers dropped a 93-83 non-conference decision to MDCC earlier this season.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 P.M. with live coverage on Action News 5 Plus and online at
