FAIRFIELD, Ill. - Playing two road matches on an early Saturday morning did little to faze the Northwest volleyball team, as the Lady Rangers left with a pair of 3-0 victories against Frontier and East Central College.
Northwest held off a couple rally attempts from Frontier in the first and third sets, but the Lady Rangers led firmly in each of the three sets against East Central College, picking up the season sweep against the Falcons.
With the sweep, Northwest moved to 15-6 overall. The Lady Rangers will return to conference play on Monday, September 30 against Itawamba. The match is scheduled for a 6 P.M. start time at Howard Coliseum, with live broadcast coverage on Ranger TV.
Northwest 3, Frontier 0
(Set scores: 25-17, 25-14, 25-22)
Maddie Smith and
Rachel Stegall powered the Northwest offense with 16 kills apiece, as the Lady Rangers delivered the early-morning shutout of Frontier.
Stegall also posted a team-best four service aces, while sophomore
Layla Dyer led the way in assists (43) and digs (10).
Kaya Coleman led Northwest with two blocks, followed by one from
Anna Lott.
Other notable stats for the Lady Rangers included
Abbey Swift's nine digs, Smith's seven digs and
Sailor Cole's five assists.
Northwest 3, East Central College 0
(Set scores: 25-13, 25-14, 25-13)
Much like the first match, Smith and Stegall once again had strong performances in a shutout victory for Northwest against East Central College.
Smith totaled 20 kills, followed by 10 kills and a team-best seven service aces from Stegall. Dyer once again led the Lady Rangers with 40 assists, while also finishing with six digs and a service ace.
Freshman
Ashley Cockrell led Northwest with 10 digs, while Swift added eight of her own. Freshman
Claire Roberts also posted a team-leading three blocks, followed by two from Lott.
