Layla Dyer Sweeps MACCC Volleyball Player of the Week Honors

Dyer wins both offensive and defense POTW accolades

JACKSON - For the first time since adding volleyball to its list of sanctioned conference sports, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference has selected the same player for Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week.

Northwest sophomore setter Layla Dyer was chosen for both awards, following a strong performance in last week's 4-0 stretch for the Lady Rangers. A native of Lafayette, La., Dyer led Northwest in both assists and digs, helping the Lady Rangers to wins against Henderson State JV, Freed-Hardeman JV, Coastal Alabama-South and Shawnee.

On the offensive side of things, Dyer tallied 130 assists in four matches, including 44 in the Lady Rangers' 3-1 win at Henderson State JV last Monday. She continues to widen the gap in the program's single-season and career assists category, currently holding 547 this season. Last year, Dyer set a new program record with 911 total assists.

Defensively, Dyer led the Lady Rangers with 49 digs for the week, while also earning four blocks and a service ace. She reached a season-high of 18 digs in the victory at Henderson State JV, while adding 12 at Freed-Hardeman JV and 11 against Coastal Alabama-South. For the season, Dyer leads the team with 168 digs.

Last week, Dyer collected MACCC Offensive Player of the Week honors, while teammate Kaya Coleman earned the conference's Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Now 12-6 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, Northwest will host Jones College on Wednesday, September 25, before visiting Frontier and East Central College on Saturday, September 28 at 9 A.M. and 11 A.M.
