SENATOBIA - Four different players scored for top-ranked Northwest in a 4-0 triumph against No. 6 Northeast (Neb.) on Labor Day.
Freshman
Lillie Grace McCutchen got the offense going in the 20th minute of the match, breaking a scoreless tie off an assist from
Emma Jensen. Later, sophomore striker
Brandy Hernandez made it a 2-0 lead for Northwest, thanks to a cross from
Caroline Chandler in the 37th minute.
Northwest would not score again until the 66th minute, when
Allie Sifford connected with
Penny Warner, giving the sophomore from Pearland, Texas her first goal of the season. Just over a minute later, the Lady Rangers put the match away, when Chandler headed in a corner kick from Sifford.
Northwest outmatched Northeast (Neb.) 28-6 in total shots, with 18 of the Lady Rangers' shots coming in the second half. The Lady Hawks were held to just six, with three shots coming on-goal.
Jensen and McCutchen led the Lady Rangers with five total shots in the match, with three of McCutchen's shots coming on-goal.
Anna Kathryn Harrell played a full 90 minutes for Northwest, earning three saves.
With the victory, the Lady Rangers improved to 3-0 on the season, as Northeast (Neb.) dropped to 1-2-1 overall. Northwest will resume competition next Tuesday, September 10, welcoming Southwestern Illinois College for a 3 P.M. start time.
