Shelby McEwen Advances to Olympic Finals

PARIS - While most of the U.S. slept, Northwest men's basketball alumnus Shelby McEwen put in work overnight, earning his way to Saturday's high jump finals in the Summer Olympic games.

McEwen, who competed at 3 A.M. Central this morning, was one of five competitors to clear the 2.27-meter mark. However, the Abbeville native did so with no misses, putting him in the lead over 15 other worldwide competitors. Additionally, McEwen was the only member of Team USA to advance to Saturday's finals.

Saturday's high jump finals are scheduled to take place at 12:05 P.M. Central time. The event is scheduled to be carried live on the Peacock app.

McEwen played two seasons of basketball at Northwest from 2015-17, before signing with the University of Alabama's track and field program. He previously competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, placing 12th in the finals.
