CLEVELAND, Miss. - Northwest forward
Darren Davis will continue his athletic and academic career at the four-year level, as the Olive Branch native signed with Delta State University during the offseason.
Davis is the first member of the Rangers' 2023-24 squad to sign with a four-year program. He was the only player to average double figures for Northwest, finishing his sophomore season with 13.9 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game, both team highs. Additionally, Davis also led the team in steals (26) and shooting percentage (47%).
One of Davis' best performances came on December 8, 2023, when he tallied a 30-point, 14-rebound double-double in a 77-63 victory against Motlow State. He finished with 15 double-figure scoring performances last season, including a 26-point effort in a 74-70 win against Southwest Mississippi on February 3.
As a freshman, Davis saw action in 23 games, earning 12 starts. He averaged 3.8 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.Â
Davis is the first Ranger to join the Statesmen basketball program since the 2015 offseason, when guard LaJustin Anderson took his talents to DSU.Â
Delta State posted a 17-12 overall record last season and a 15-9 mark in the Gulf South Conference.Â
