Peeko Townsend Named NAIA First Team All-American

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Former Northwest baseball outfielder and current Blue Mountain Christian University slugger Peeko Townsend was chosen as an NAIA All-American, BMCU announced earlier this week.

Townsend, a native of Pontotoc, hit .353 on the season with 25 home runs and 80 RBIs, helping the Toppers to their first NAIA postseason appearance in program history. Townsend was also named as the Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Year and is BMCU's first-ever NAIA All-American.

Townsend spent two seasons with Northwest from 2021-22, playing in just 12 games as a freshman. However, he worked his way into the Rangers' starting lineup as a sophomore, batting .293 on the season, while crushing nine doubles, a triple, 11 home runs and 22 RBIs. Four of his 11 home runs came during the postseason.

Used primarily in left field, Townsend fielded .918 and committed only one error in 23 conference games. He anchored a strong outfield that included UT Southern's Landon Rogers and former high school teammate Caleb Hobson, who played for UT Martin and was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 2023 MLB Draft.

Townsend initially signed with Jackson State following his Northwest career, but instead found his way to BMCU, setting up his stellar 2024 campaign with the Toppers.
