Lady Rangers Lose Regular Season Finale

Box Score PERKINSTON - Northwest was outscored 20-9 in the first quarter and 16-9 in the third, as Mississippi Gulf Coast took a 75-50 victory against the Lady Rangers on Monday evening.

Sophomore Kae'la Mitchell led Northwest with 14 points, as the Lady Rangers ended the regular season with a three-game losing skid. Northwest now enters the postseason with a 15-10 overall record and a 7-7 mark in conference play.

As a team, the Lady Rangers shot 28 percent from the floor, while Mississippi Gulf Coast shot 46 percent. The Lady Bulldogs also outscored Northwest 19-7 in points off turnovers.

In addition to Mitchell's leading scoring effort, Mariah Reed-Jones also accounted for 13 points, while Marian Jenkins added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds off the bench.

Je'Mya Evans and Simaru Fields accounted for 20 points apiece to lead Mississippi Gulf Coast, while JaSharreah Hunt finished with a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double. Jacylin Houston also added 11 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

Northwest will await the outcome of Thursday's conference games to determine their seeding and opponent. However, the Lady Rangers have at least clinched a first-round home game, which will be held Saturday, March 9 at 3 P.M.
