CHARLOTTE - Despite being swept at fourth-ranked Copiah-Lincoln last Saturday, Northwest slid just one spot from No. 8 to No. 9 in the latest NJCAA Division II Softball Rankings, released Monday afternoon.
Northwest (14-6, 1-3 MACCC) has stayed in the national Top 10 since the first regular season polls were released in late February. Previously, the Rangers were receiving votes, but unranked in the preseason poll.
Fellow MACCC foes Pearl River and Copiah-Lincoln remained No. 2 and No. 4 respectively, with Jones College also remaining sixth. East Central and Northeast stayed put at No. 13 and No. 14 as well, while East Mississippi was unranked but receiving votes this week.
Parkland College is still the No. 1 team in the nation with a 25-3 overall record, while Louisburg (N.C.) and Murray State College (Okla.) are third and fifth, respectively. Additionally, fellow Region 23 rival LSU-Eunice is lurking at No. 8 overall.
Northwest will host Mississippi Delta on Tuesday at 2/4 P.M., marking the first home games for coach
Chelsea Bramlett's club since February 29. The Rangers will also welcome No. 13 East Central on Saturday, March 23 at 12/2 P.M.
Both doubleheaders will be carried on Ranger TV.
