Takera Bland and
Layla Hampton finished with near triple-doubles, Northwest found itself on the losing end of Tuesday evening's 68-60 decision at Mississippi Delta.
Bland and Hampton were two of the four Lady Rangers to reach double figures, with Bland accounting for 15 points, 12 rebounds and seven blocks. Hampton finished with 10 points, eight assists and seven rebounds on the night.
Northwest trailed 15-12 following the end of the first quarter and remained close with the Lady Trojans all evening. However, it was Mississippi Delta that would take a 32-29 lead into the halftime break.
Though the game remained close throughout the second half, the Lady Rangers were ultimately unable to break away from the home team, as the Lady Trojans accounted for 36 second half points.
Alorian Story and
Mariah Reed-Jones also reached double digits for Northwest, with Story earning a 10-point, 13-rebound double-double. Reed-Jones added 15 points and five boards.
Neither team performed well off the bench, with Mississippi Delta only finishing with six points and the Lady Ranger reserves accounting for just three.
Layla Carter led the Lady Trojans with an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double, while Janiah Caples added 11 points of her own. Lauren Lain finished with nine points as well to further aid Mississippi Delta, followed by eight points and a team-leading five assists from Fantasia Wilson.
With the loss, Northwest dropped to 3-5 on the season. With the Lady Rangers' upcoming matchup against Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas canceled, NWCC will be away from action until Thursday, January 9 in a non-conference contest against East Mississippi.
