SENATOBIA - Scoring came early and often for top-ranked Northwest in Friday's 9-0 victory against Hinds.
Four players collected their first goals of the season, including sophomore
Allie Reed Greer and freshman trio
Amiyah Baker,
Allie Kimbrell and
Tabitha McMackin.
Caroline Hamm,
Molly Thompson and
Penny Warner also scored in the shutout, pushing the Lady Rangers' overall mark to 10-0 with a 5-0 MACCC record.
Thompson got the scoring started for Northwest in the second minute, netting her second goal of the season. In the 13th minute, McMackin provided the assist on Kimbrell's first goal and just a short time later, McMackin netted her first collegiate goal off a double assist from Kimbrell and
Allie Sifford in the 14th minute.
Trailing 3-0, Hinds tightened up on defense over the 25 minutes, cutting down on the scoring opportunities for Northwest. However, Hamm would deliver another goal just before halftime, as
Raegan Tucker tallied the assist in the 43rd minute, giving the Lady Rangers a 4-0 halftime advantage.
Less than five minutes into the second half, McMackin scored her second goal of the match off an assist from Jensen, setting the wheels in motion for another string of goals. In the 53rd minute, Greer connected on her first goal of the season, pushing the Lady Rangers' lead to 6-0.
In the 66th minute, Thompson netted her second goal of the season, an unassisted score. As the second half began to draw to a close, Kimbrell assisted Warner's goal in the 84th minute and Baker capped off the scoring in the 88th minute, thanks to an assist from McMackin. Of note, Warner's late goal was the 19th of her career, moving her into a tie with Abigail Morales (2014-15) and
Jadyn Duran (2022-23) for the 10th most goals scored.
Northwest took 15 shots in the first half, but expanded that total to 39 by the end of the match. The Lady Rangers also had 22 shots on-goal, while Hinds was limited to just two total shots for the entire 90 minutes.
Ana Camila Hernandez Lopez recorded 13 saves for the Lady Eagles and Northwest goalkeeper
Ann Marie Barton collected one save in her first collegiate start.
