BROOKHAVEN - Despite impressive improvements on Tuesday from William Linehan, Jr.,
Landon Masterson and
Narit Teeranontamongkol, the Northwest men's golf team still placed 10th out of 10 teams to finish the Co-Lin Invitational.
Brookhaven Country Club played host to the tournament, which was won by Meridian. The Eagles finished +11 as a team, followed by East Central in second place at 20 over par and Hinds in third place, with a +23 result.
Northwest shot +45 as a team in the opening round, but the Rangers improved with a +30 showing on Tuesday. The Rangers posted the seventh-best finish for the second round, faring better than Pearl River, Southwest Mississippi and Itawamba.
Some of the most notable reasons for the Rangers' success in the second round started with the trio of Linehan, Masterson and Teeranontamongkol. Linehan posted the best overall finish for Northwest, finishing 10 over par and a stroke of 150. However, he moved up 13 spots on the leaderboard, going from +7 in the opening round to just three over par on Tuesday.
Masterson also jumped up 10 spots on the leaderboard from Monday to Tuesday, finishing with a score of 159 and +19. Teeranontamongkol tied Masterson for the team's second-best finish, as the freshman from Thailand also moved up 13 spots on the leaderboard, going from 13 over on Monday to just six over par on Tuesday.
Closing out the team results for Northwest was
Drew Dabbs, who finished with a 167 stroke and 27 over par, and
Garrett Wright, who posted a combined score of 168 and finished +28. Additionally,
Jeremy Gibson competed as an independent, finishing 48th on the player leaderboard and 22 over par.
Northwest will now turn its attention to its next tournament, the Meridian Invitational, hosted by Meridian Community College. The event will take place October 7-8 at Briarwood Golf Club, with a practice round scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 6.
