Northwest Drops Conference Loss to Jones College

ELLISVILLE - Despite tying Monday evening's match with a gritty 28-26 effort in the second set, Northwest fell behind in big deficits to Jones College in the third and fourth sets, as the Lady Bobcats picked up the 3-1 win.

Jones College gained the early 9-4 lead in the opening set, only for Northwest to come back and build a 12-9 lead out of the timeout. However, the Lady Bobcats stormed back, pulling within 21-19 before scoring the final six points of the set, earning a 25-21 decision.

After falling behind 6-1 to open the second set, the Lady Rangers rallied back to tie the set at 6-6. Yet again, Jones College came back, pushing the score to 17-12. Although the Lady Bobcats pushed their lead out to 23-19, Northwest rallied back to tie the match before eventually claiming the 28-26 win.

From there, it was all Jones College, as the Lady Bobcats opened up a 7-2 advantage early in the third set. The deficit swelled to 12-5 and later ended in a 25-13 loss for Northwest.

Trailing the match 2-1, Northwest was within a 9-6 margin early in the fourth set, before the Lady Bobcats got on a roll and pushed their lead to 20-8. Jones College eventually closed out the clinching fourth set with a 25-12 victory.

Abbey Swift led the Lady Rangers with 16 digs and two service aces, while Maddie Smith provided a team-leading 10 kills. Rachel Stegall finished with nine kills and two service aces, while Kaya Coleman tallied six blocks.

Layla Dyer accounted for 35 assists and 12 digs, while Anna Lott added eight kills and five blocks. Stegall also finished with 11 digs and three blocks.

Harmony Jackson led Jones College with 14 kills, while Mamie Fromdahl provided 35 assists, two blocks and a pair of service aces. Emily Boudreaux also added a team-leading 29 digs.

With the loss, Northwest dropped to 21-8 overall and 5-2 in the MACCC, while Jones College moved to 20-6 on the season and 5-2 in conference play. The Lady Rangers will take on Itawamba on Wednesday, October 16 at 6 P.M., as the Lady Indians are coming off a five-set thriller against rival Northeast.
