WESSON - Copiah-Lincoln came out shooting hot from the early minutes to the final buzzer, as Northwest dropped a 103-70 decision to the Wolves on Monday evening.
Northwest never led in the loss, trailing 10-4 early and 19-12 midway through the opening half. From there, the Wolves went on an 11-2 run and built their lead above 20 points in the final minutes before halftime.
A 52-30 deficit would only get worse for the Rangers, as Co-Lin led by 30 points for most of the second half. The Wolves' largest advantage of 35 points came with 28 seconds left in the contest.
Co-Lin dominated the game in the paint, outscoring Northwest 52-28 and 18-8 off turnovers. The Wolves shot 52 percent from the floor, while holding the Rangers to just 36 percent on the evening. Additionally, the Rangers were outmatched 48-30 in total rebounds.
Darren Davis,
Jordan Ealey and
Keanu Patrick led Northwest with 10 points each, while Patrick and
Thomas Tangle led the rebound column with seven apiece.
Devin Moore added nine points and four rebounds off the bench.
Four Co-Lin players scored in double figures, sparked by 19 points and three rebounds from Ismail Rashid. Emmanuel James nearly finished with a double-double, providing 12 points and eight rebounds for the Wolves, while Courterius Scott netted 15 points for the Wolves.
With the loss, Northwest fell to 4-9 on the season and 0-1 in the MACCC. Co-Lin improved to 9-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Next up for the Rangers is a home matchup against East Mississippi on Thursday, January 25. The Lions (7-10, 0-2 MACCC) are in the midst of a four-game losing skid, but defeated Northwest earlier in the season by a 74-50 final on November 27.
