HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - With the sting of a suspended match against nationally-ranked South Suburban College still fresh on their minds, the third-ranked Northwest women's soccer team took out their frustrations in a 10-0 road win at National Park College on Wednesday.
Sophomore
Evie Crawford was the story of the match, as the Tupelo native netted four goals and two assists, reminiscent of her five-goal effort in last season's win against Hinds. Of note, the last Northwest player other than Crawford to score four goals in a single match was Cheyenne Smith, who scored all four in a 4-2 victory against East Central on September 5, 2018.
Additionally,
Addison Vargas also added a goal and an assist in Wednesday's win, while
Kaley Harden chipped in a pair of assists.
Caroline Chandler got the scoring started for Northwest, scoring off a feed from
Raegan Tucker. Freshman
Brandy Hernandez then followed suit, scoring off an assist from
Mia Kate Cade, pushing the Lady Rangers to a quick 2-0 lead.
Shortly after, Crawford nabbed her first goal of the season and the match, thanks to an assist from
Hudson Lindsay. Later, Crawford would connect with Vargas for a 4-0 lead, before Vargas returned the favor to Crawford just before halftime.
Northwest didn't miss a beat coming out of the break, as
Mari Julia Delgado connected with Crawford to make it a 6-0 advantage. Tucker followed off an assist from Crawford, before Crawford picked up her final goal off a pass from
Sophia Lopez.
Harden would assist the final two goals of the match, one to
Bre'Aunna Harps and the other to Lindsay, putting the wraps on another strong Lady Rangers' effort.
Northwest once again showed its strength on defense, allowing just one shot on-goal. Freshman goalkeeper
Anna Kathryn Harrell moved to 2-0 on the season and recorded one save.
Now 2-0 on the season, the Lady Rangers will take a break from regular season play to face Christian Brothers University and Union University in a pair of exhibitions. The Lady Rangers and CBU will kick off at 6:30 P.M. on Thursday, August 24, while the exhibition with Northwest and Union will take place on Monday, Aug. 28 in Jackson, Tenn.
