GOODMAN - Sophomore
Jaylon Sanders led Northwest with a career-high 29 points, finishing as the Rangers' only double-digit scorer in Saturday's 83-70 loss to Meridian.
Saturday's matchup, which was a makeup conference game played at Holmes Community College, marked the fifth 20-point game for Sanders this season and his 30th career game in double figures. Despite the heroics, the Rangers dropped their sixth straight loss, falling to 5-16 overall and 3-9 in conference play.
Meridian led 41-28 at halftime, creating enough separation to remain ahead of the Rangers, despite both teams scoring 42 points each in the second half. The Eagles shot a whopping 56 percent from the floor, compared to 43 percent from Northwest.
In addition to his near 30-point scoring performance, Sanders also led Northwest with nine rebounds.
Dailin Cooperwood provided nine points off the bench, while
Devin Moore collected eight total points.
Meridian had four players reach double digits, led by Christian Terrell's 18-point effort. Talib Ferrette and Calexis Campbell scored 15 points apiece, with Campbell's coming off the bench.
Northwest will conclude the 2022-23 season this week with a pair of conference games against Southwest Mississippi and Copiah-Lincoln. The Rangers will visit the Bears on Tuesday, February 21, before hosting the Wolves on Thursday, February 23 for Sophomore Night.
Tipoff for both games are set for 6 P.M., with Thursday's contest available to watch on Ranger TV (nwccrangers.com/watch) and Action News 5 Plus.
