SENATOBIA - Three players finished in double figures for Northwest, as the Lady Rangers improved to 2-0 with a 59-49 victory against Dyersburg State.
Though Northwest was unable to pull away for good against Dyersburg State, the Lady Rangers never surrendered the lead after taking an early 7-0 advantage.
Northwest ended the first quarter with a 13-5 lead against the Lady Eagles. but Dyersburg State worked its way back into striking distance throughout the second period. The Lady Rangers led 30-18 at the halftime break.
In the third quarter, Northwest led by double digits nearly the entire way. However, the Lady Eagles cut the deficit to four with five minutes remaining in regulation, only for the Lady Rangers to bring the lead back to 10 points with less than a minute left.
Freshman
Mariah Reed-Jones led the Lady Rangers with 14 points, while
Kae'la Mitchell provided 11 points off the bench.
Angela Middleton also scored in double digits with 10 points and four assists.
Mikayla Abram and
Marian Jenkins each collected a team-best six rebounds, with Abram also providing five blocks. Jenkins, the sophomore from Madison, finished with eight points.
Northwest will prepare for its turn in the ASU Mid-South Lady Greyhound Classic this weekend, with a Friday evening contest against the hosts and a Saturday afternoon showdown with National Park College.
