Rangers Drop Pair of Weekend Road Games

Northwest to host Dyersburg State in home opener on Monday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. - Two close games opened the season for the Northwest men's basketball team, but the Rangers ended the weekend in the loss column, dropping both contests against National Park College and Arkansas State Mid-South in the annual ASU Mid-South Greyhound Classic.

Northwest dropped Friday's contest against National Park, 92-88, while falling 72-61 to the Greyhounds on Saturday afternoon.

In the loss to National Park College, the Rangers trailed by just three at halftime, 44-41. Northwest remained within striking distance for nearly the entire contest, but the Nighthawks ultimately finished with the slight edge down the stretch.

Four Rangers finished in double figures, led by 17 points from Darren Davis. The sophomore also nearly collected a double-double, earning eight rebounds.

Nolan Wells and Terry Joyner also added 13 and 10 points off the bench, respectively, while also combining for nine rebounds. DeShunn Dunn also collected 12 points for the Rangers, while Devin Moore led Northwest with 11 rebounds.

Saturday's loss to Arkansas State Mid-South saw the Rangers down by 10 points at halftime, 39-29. Both teams traded blows in the second half, but Northwest was simply unable to gain the upper hand on the Greyhounds, as ASU Mid-South pulled away down the stretch.

For the second consecutive game, Davis led Northwest with 15 points and six rebounds, followed by 13 points by freshman Keanu Patrick. Off the bench, Marquavous Jones added eight points, with Wells and Shavurdacour Nicholas providing seven points each.

Northwest (0-2) will host Dyersburg State in Monday's home-opener, scheduled for 7:30 P.M. at Howard Coliseum. Live coverage will be available on Ranger TV.
