SENATOBIA - Five second half goals helped rejuvenate the Northwest offense in a 7-0 blowout of Copiah-Lincoln in Saturday's Region 23 Quarterfinals.
With the win, the Lady Rangers moved to 18-1 on the season, while advancing to the Region 23 Semifinals for the third straight season. Copiah-Lincoln ended the season with a 7-8-2 overall record.
It took Northwest less than two minutes to score, as
Mari Julia Delgado's corner kick bounced around in front of the net for several seconds. Finally, a deflection off of
Avery Hooker found the foot of
Emma Earwood, who sent it into the back of the net for the quick lead.
Just over a minute later, Hooker would score off an assist from Delgado, giving Northwest the 2-0 advantage less than five minutes into the match.
From there, the Lady Wolves kept Northwest off the board throughout the rest of the first half, despite a couple good chances from the Lady Rangers. Copiah-Lincoln also managed to go on the attack, but only had four shots to show for it by halftime.
Copiah-Lincoln remained within striking distance for the first few minutes of the second half, but a goal from
Raegan Tucker in the 60th minute would change everything. Leading 3-0, the Lady Rangers added two more goals from
Brandy Hernandez (including a penalty kick), pushing the score to 5-0.
In the 67th minute,
Evie Crawford got on the stat sheet with her 13th goal of the season. Sophomore
Jadyn Duran would cap off the scoring barrage in the 72nd minute, adding her 11th goal of the season and sealing the dominant victory.
Northwest shot the ball 35 times in the win, including 19 shots on-goal. Copiah-Lincoln was held to just six shots, with five of those coming on-goal.
Lara Dorfel captured 12 saves for the Lady Wolves, while
Anna Kathryn Harrell posted her 15th shutout of the season for Northwest, improving her record to 16-1.
