Northwest Splits Friday Twinbill at Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Continuing on its extended road stretch last Friday, Northwest scored a 3-0 victory at Henderson State before falling 3-2 to Dallas College-Richland in a non-region doubleheader.

Micah Swift combined for 18 kills and nine total blocks to lead the Lady Rangers, while Cristen Cleveland totaled a combined 21 digs.

With the split, Northwest dropped to 7-11 on the season. The Lady Rangers return to action on Saturday, October 1 for another doubleheader at Champion Christian College and against Austin College.

An early lead helped Northwest gain the momentum in the first set and the Lady Rangers never relinquished control, sweeping Henderson State in straight sets.

Swift and Kaley Rikard led the Lady Rangers with a combined 14 kills, including eight from Swift. Cleveland had 11 digs, followed by seven from Kennedy Smith, who also totaled five kills in the win.

Lia Ramos also totaled a team-high 27 assists, while Swift, Kailey Gooch and Jacia Hayes came away with two blocks each.


Dallas College-Richland 3, Northwest 2
(Set scores: 25-21, 14-25, 18-25, 25-12, 15-11)


A 2-1 match lead against Dallas College-Richland was quickly erased with a 25-12 loss in the fourth set, forcing a fifth and deciding set that fell in favor of the ThunderDucks.

Northwest dropped a hard-fought opening set, 25-21, before rallying back to take the next two sets and the match lead. After Dallas College-Richland came away with a commanding decision in the fourth set, the Lady Rangers came up short in the deciding set.

Gooch and Swift led Northwest with 10 kills and seven blocks each, while Kayla Beal finished with 16 digs and two aces. Cleveland's 10 digs and eight kills were also notable in the loss, followed by seven kills from Hayes.
