McEwen to Compete in USATF Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. - Former Northwest hoops standout Shelby McEwen will once again have a chance to shine on the national stage this weekend, as the Abbeville native will compete in the 2022 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships.

McEwen will once again compete in the high jump, an event that has become the specialty for the former Ranger and University of Alabama star. Last year, McEwen qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, finishing 12th in the high jump finals after achieving bronze in last year's Olympic qualifying trials.

McEwen, who starred for the Rangers from 2015-17, was one of only two members of Team USA to compete in the finals, joining SEC counterpart JuVaughn Harrison (LSU), who placed seventh overall. During his time at Alabama, he racked up numerous awards in USATF and NCAA events.

Tomorrow's high jump finals are scheduled to begin at 1:25 P.M. Central, according to the USATF website. Fans can watch the event live online or on delay from NBC at 3 P.M. Central.
