MERIDIAN - After clinching the final available slot into the postseason, the Northwest baseball team has finally learned its playoff opponent.
As the No. 9 overall seed, Northwest will take on second-seeded Meridian in a best-of-three series this weekend, beginning at 6 P.M. on Thursday, May 5. The two teams will then play on Friday, May 6 at 3 P.M., with a third and decisive game scheduled for Saturday, May 7 at 2 P.M., if necessary.
Northwest and Meridian split the series earlier this season, with the Rangers taking Game 1 against the Eagles by a 9-8 final in Senatobia. Meridian got the best of the Rangers in the nightcap, earning a 13-2 run-rule decision. Since 2015, the Eagles hold a 10-6 record against the Rangers.
Meridian (33-11, 21-7 MACCC) enters the postseason with a top 10 national ranking. The Eagles are coming off a make-up series against Coahoma, which was held on Monday, winning by a pair of 15-2 and 13-1 finals.
