CHARLOTTE - After three weeks hanging on at No. 9 in the NJCAA Division II rankings, the Northwest softball program checks in at No. 11 in the latest polls released Monday afternoon.
Northwest slid only two spots in the national rankings after undergoing a grueling stretch that featured four straight doubleheaders against teams ranked in the top 20. Three of those doubleheaders came against fellow MACCC foes and the Rangers split with then-No. 12 Pearl River and previous No. 20-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast.
On the season, Northwest is 4-6 against nationally-ranked opponents and comes into this week with a 12-6 overall record.
Copiah-Lincoln is the highest ranked MACCC program, checking in at No. 3 in the nation with a 20-2 record. Itawamba and Jones College follow at fourth and fifth respectively, while Pearl River jumped to eighth overall. Southwest Mississippi and Mississippi Gulf Coast round out this week's rankings at No. 17 and No. 18, while fellow Region 23 foe LSU-Eunice jumped to No. 13 after being unranked last week.
Northwest will remain on the road this week with doubleheaders at East Mississippi on Wednesday, March 23 and Meridian on Saturday, March 26. Both twinbills are scheduled for 1/3 P.M. start times.
Northwest will return home on Saturday, April 2 to host Jones College at 1/3 P.M. Those games will be streamed on Ranger TV (nwccrangers.com/watch) and Facebook Live.
