CHARLOTTE - Although some shakeups occurred with this week's NJCAA Division I Football Rankings, Northwest was not one of the teams that moved.
After finishing the regular season 9-0 and claiming the MACCC North Division title, Northwest stayed put at No. 3 in the nation entering this weekend's MACCC Semifinals. Hutchinson (Kan.) and Iowa Western also remained in the top two spots.
Trinity Valley (Texas) and Snow College (Utah) round out this week's top five, with the Cardinals ranked fourth after handing New Mexico Military Institute its second loss of the season over the weekend.Â
Jones College, the Saturday opponent for Northwest, is ranked No. 7 overall, tumbling three spots after losing to Mississippi Gulf Coast last week. The loss allowed the Bulldogs to leapfrog the Bobcats for the MACCC South Division title, while sending Jones (8-1) to the second and final seed.
Mississippi Gulf Coast moved into the rankings at No. 12 in the nation, while East Mississippi remained at No. 14. Those two teams will face off Saturday evening in the other conference semifinal matchup.
Saturday will mark a rematch between Northwest and Jones College, as the Rangers took a 26-20 victory nearly a year ago in last year's semifinal showdown in Ellisville. That game gave the Rangers revenge after falling 31-9 to the Bobcats earlier in the regular season.
Jones College also leads the all-time series against Northwest, 32-19.
Kickoff between the Rangers and Bobcats is slated for 2 P.M. at Bobby Franklin Field. Tickets can be purchased
here and fans unable to attend can watch the action on Ranger TV (
nwccrangers.com/watch) or on Action News 5 Plus, available via Roku, Apple TV or through basic antenna (Channel 5.5).Â
