CHARLOTTE - After another 1-0-1 week that included a win and a tie against Hinds and No. 4 Holmes, the Northwest women's soccer program has moved up yet another spot in this week's NJCAA Division II rankings, released Monday afternoon.
Northwest has inched up from ninth to No. 8 in the polls, marking yet another milestone as the new highest national ranking in program history. The Lady Rangers have been ranked in every NJCAA poll dating back to September of last year.
Currently, Northwest sports an overall record of 6-1-2, with both ties coming on the road at Holmes and last month at No. 5 Jones College. Holmes and Jones remain in their aforementioned spots, while Heartland (Ill.) moved into the new No. 1 spot, bumping down Phoenix College and Pima (Ariz.) at two and three, respectively.
Elsewhere in the MACCC, Pearl River also jumped two slots from 15th to 13th, while East Central quietly tumbled out of the polls.
This week, the Lady Rangers will embark on the final road swing of the regular season, beginning with Tuesday afternoon's match at Mississippi Gulf Coast. The Lady Bulldogs (2-5-2, 0-3-2 MACCC) are entering the match on a two-game losing skid, falling recently to Itawamba and Copiah-Lincoln, while also seeking their first win since September 11.
