Box Score JACKSON - In its closest match of the season thus far, Northwest took Millsaps College to the brink after earning wins in the first and fourth sets, but the Majors did just enough to edge the Lady Rangers 15-12 in the final set, to earn a 3-2 victory on Wednesday evening.
Northwest made a statement in the first set, earning the 25-19 victory. However, the Majors would respond in a big way in the second set, as the Lady Rangers fell on the wrong end of a 25-14 decision.
With the match knotted up at 1-1, Millsaps took the third set with a 25-18 score and tried to finish off the Lady Rangers in the fourth, only for Northwest to gain the upper hand with a 25-22 result, forcing the deciding fifth set.
Northwest earned 11 kills in the fourth set and
Kapria Manning led the team with eight total kills for the match.
Julissa Soto and
Alexia Davis led in digs, finishing with 16 and 13, respectively.
Chariah Mabry and
Allison Greene earned two blocks apiece to lead the Lady Rangers in that category, while Mabry also came away with five kills.
With the loss, Northwest fell to 0-5 on the season, as Millsaps opened the season with a 1-0 mark. The Lady Rangers will travel to Henderson State on Sunday, September 5 for a double dip with HSU and Lyon College at 12/2 P.M.
