Rangers Labeled No. 14 in Latest NJCAA Rankings

CHARLOTTE - Following last week's road loss at Jones College, Northwest has slid to No. 14 in the latest NJCAA rankings, announced this afternoon by the organization.

Northwest was previously ranked No. 2 in the nation prior to its meeting with the previously-15th ranked Bobcats last Thursday. Last week's game marked the earliest loss the Rangers have suffered since the 2014 season, when the team started 0-3 on the season, before recovering to earn a second place finish in the MACCC North Division.

Mississippi Gulf Coast leads all MACCC teams with a No. 5 overall ranking, followed by Jones College, which checks in at No. 10. East Mississippi also joins this week's rankings at No. 11 overall, while Hinds is listed as receiving votes.

Snow College (Utah) tops the rankings, followed by Garden City (Kan.) at No. 2, Kilgore College (Texas) at No. 3 and Iowa Western at fourth overall.

Northwest (1-1) will look to get back in the win column this Thursday in the MACCC North Division opener at Holmes. The Rangers are 43-11-3 in division-opening games since 1964 and have won 15 of the last 18 dating back to 2003.

As for Holmes, the Bulldogs are sporting an 0-2 record to start the season after losses to Mississippi Gulf Coast and Hinds. This will be the Rangers' third straight trip to Goodman, with Holmes taking the 2019 battle, 47-42, and Northwest earning revenge last November with a 41-13 final.

Kickoff for Thursday's contest is set for 6:30 P.M., preceded by the pregame show at 6 P.M. The game will be carried on Ranger TV (nwccrangers.com/watch), Facebook ("Northwest Ranger Athletics") and on WHCQ-LD 8, where available.
